Featured in The Wire Tapper

Hey, this is cool! I was chosen to be featured in The Wire magazine’s annual Wire Tapper series.

The Wire Tapper 34

All copies of the April 2014 issue of The Wire will come complete with an exclusive free CD attached to the cover, The Wire Tapper 34, the latest volume in the acclaimed series of new music compilations.

As with previous volumes this CD, which has been compiled by Shane Woolman, Andy Tait and Katie Gibbons, is packaged in a heavy duty card sleeve designed by The Wire’s art director Ben Weaver, and contains a range of new, rare or exclusive tracks from across the spectrum of the kind of underground/outsider musics covered in The Wire.

Just had a great weekend with the Dub Champions Festival in Amsterdam! True Soldiers, MC Brother Culture, Twilight Circus and Goth Trad in the area at OT301. This was the debut of the festival in Amsterdam and we all feel that it was strong and sure footed step forward.

We also did a festival takeover at Red Light Radio. Check the stream below. I debuted some unreleased and upcoming tracks beginning at approximately 1 hour and 38 minutes in.

We are excited to announce the return of global producer/DJ extraordinaire MAGA BO to Amsterdam and where better to host him than OCCII!

=========MAGA BO (BR)=========

Brazilian based Maga Bo has carved out his name in the “global bass” world (though we think he was making it before the term even existed!) for his futuristic mix of worldwide organic sounds with urban, bass ridden, sound system culture.

His productions blend and blur global influences from dancehall, kuduro, cumbia, afro-brazilica and hip-hop into an infectious, club ready international sound. His latest album, the critically acclaimed ‘Quilombo do Futuro”, is a mind-blowing 21st century take on Afro-Brazilian music, combining maculelê, samba, jongo with hip-hop, dub, ragga and kuduro.

“This is serious batucada and bass, mids, treble. TUDO.”

=========PROCESS REBEL (NL)=========

As if that wasn’t enough, we are lucky enough to have local bassario Process Rebel join for a special live collaboration with Maga Bo. Process Rebel has gained a reputation for his ability to traverse and unite the spectrum of global electronic music, seamlessly weaving together dub, dancehall, hip-hop and the countless inversions of worldwide electronica.

Joining forces to co-produce this event, SubTropikal and Rebel Up! Soundclash share the same philosophy: bringing you the freshest genre blending, top quality, global-digital sounds!

Expect OCCII’s dancefloor to be transformed into a hot, booming, subtropikal cave. There will be great music, there will be dancing and there will be sweating – this is going to be a night not to be missed!

TRUE SOLDIERS PRODUCTIONS proudly welcomes SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM for the first ever Amsterdam performance. Fresh off a US tour running Dub Controls for the wizard Lee “Scratch’ Perry, Emch promises a mindblowing, extended solo dub set! Also joining the voyage is PROCESS REBEL from San Francisco who will share his evolving, ambitious fusions of bass music and other emerging sounds.

Subatomic Sound System:
For over a decade Emch has been the producer, selector, musician and label head behind Subatomic Sound System. Founded at the turn of the millennium, NYC’s Subatomic Sound System has built a reputation worldwide for explosive shows, genre bending production, and breaking down barriers with their unique adaptation of 1970’s Jamaican sound system culture and dub reggae studio techniques to all types of bass heavy electronic music genres, current technologies, and live performances. A forerunner of laptop DJing, Emch won an upset victory at Red Bull’s NYC Vinyl Lab competition in 2002 and hasn’t looked back, typically DJing with multiple apps at once, plus an analog fx unit in one hand and a mic in the other. Emch has also been host of Subatomic Sound Radio airing for years on BrooklynRadio.net and KEXP’s Mo-Glo broadcast on Radio New York, 91.5fm. Subatomic Sound System has toured throughout N. America, Europe, and Asia. In 2008, Emch was recruited by Vienna’s Dubblestandart band to play guitar on tour worldwide with Grammy winning reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry, playing for capacity crowd shows from New York’s Central Park to Europe largest reggae festival, One Love in Poland. As the Subatomic Sound record label head, Emch has produced and released dub reggae innovator Lee Scratch Perry’s first dubstep tracks plus eclectic collaborations with icons like filmmaker David Lynch, Prince Far-i, & UK punk pioneer Ari Up of the Slits as well as new school torchbearers like Anthony B, Elephant Man, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Dubblestandart, & his own group Subatomic Sound System.

Process Rebel:
Process Rebel is a DJ/producer working in a fusion of electronica, dub, rock, hip-hop and bass music. His style traverses the electronic music diaspora with a lean towards dub, dubstep, post-dancehall and global ghetto tech. Genres collide and form tracks that collectively define his evolving and ambitious sound that has been described as “inspired ritualist. a journey through strange musical topographies, no map included” and “one of the deepest (as in depth charges) mixes around.”
